Review
Alright, so let me tell you a secret. Would you kill me if I say I haven’t really watched Tomb Raider until last night? LOL!
My friends and I booked tickets to watch the latest reboot of Lara Croft movie starring Alicia Vikander. So it’s only proper for me to at least watch the first installation before watching it since I don’t want to go in blind. I’ve heard bad reviews about the latest installment, but I wanted to see it for myself.
Okay so back to the movie. Alicia Vikander is perfect for the role you guys! I have read criticisms about her, but she delivered. What I actually liked about her portrayal was that, she wasn’t objectified! If you’ve watched the first movie, it’s evident how Jolie was sexualized – what with all those shower scenes? As if it’s not gonna sell if those weren’t included.
Vikander is totally fit for the role. She wasn’t trying to be sexy. Definitely no flirting scenes – another plus. I liked how they treated Lara Croft’s character. Downright bad ass. She’s a heroine who can handle herself in dangerous situations and is totally game for activities that are stereo typically for the boys only.
The actors delivered their roles IMHO. However, that is where the good things end.
Visual Effects. I’d be considerate if the first movie has crappy effects, but 2001 is certainly different from 2018! I don’t know if it was just me, but I think the effects were poorly done. It lacked the authenticity I expect to see in Hollywood movies. It felt fake. That boat scene. The scene where Lara jumped off the cliff and was washed away by the current.
The SET. Those big vines. The rocks. Damn. I’ve got this antsy feeling it was filmed in a studio.
PLOT. I’m not an expert in this matter since I don’t play the computer game. I just seem confused with her father being alive. I thought he’d been dead for a long time?
