Synopsis

On Nov. 4, 1979, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, Iran, taking 66 American hostages. Amid the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge with the Canadian ambassador. Knowing that it’s just a matter of time before the refugees are found and likely executed, the U.S. government calls on extractor Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) to rescue them. Mendez’s plan is to pose as a Hollywood producer scouting locations in Iran and train the refugees to act as his “film” crew.

Review

This was surprisingly one of my best finds this weekend on Netflix. I have been putting it off for so long so I just decided to have a go and watched it last weekend.

My interest these days in movies varies from true crime to thriller, to war-related, to documentaries, or to whatever just caught my attention.

I have always wanted to watch this because I have read and heard a lot of positive reviews about this movie. I was in the perfect mood to do it this weekend and boy, it did not disappoint.

I loved the build-up of the story. I had my eyes glued on the screen from the very first scene.

Performance-wise, the acting was superb. The actors didn’t overpower each other. No exaggeration.

The sequence of the story was also good. Most of all, it was the plot that captivated me until the end. It had kept me over the edge of my seat white-knuckled especially with that airport scene. Oh goodness! My heart hasn’t beat that fast in a while. Unrealistic, yes, but it has added that element to make the movie more thrilling.
